Donna the Buffalo

Life's
A Ride
Traveling across the country in a 1960 tour bus to share their uplifting grooves, Donna the Buffalo has developed a fervent following and inspired fans of all ages. They have mastered the festival circuit, yearly performing at such prestigious events as The Merle Watson Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and The Newport Folk Festival. Funky and danceable with a message of tribal philosophy and celebration, Donna the Buffalo's music is a unique blend of reggae, rock, country, zydeco, cajun, and folk traditions. The dual vocals of Tara Nevins and Jeb Puryear provide a hypnotic quality to the melody, adding to the band's unusual instrumentation and original sound. While their swirling music ensures that audiences will be up and dancing, Donna's pointed lyrics issue moral challenges. Topic material moves effortlessly between political, historical, personal, and spiritual themes, with ideas of social and moral responsibility that spring from the band members core beliefs.
Not one to preach without practicing, Donna the Buffalo turns belief into action every summer as the driving force behind the FingerLakes GrassRoots Festival. Staged in Trumansburg, NY, the Donna organization plans and hosts the event, which benefits AIDS programs and art education throughout the upstate area. The 2001 festival witnessed over 15,000 people converge for 4 days of music from more than 60 bands, including such international talent as The Super Rail Band, Nickel Creek, Eileen Ivers and Donna the Buffalo. GrassRoots has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to support local charities over the festival's 12 year existence.
Donna the Buffalo's unique musical style involves a symbiotic relationship with the band's fans. The interchange of energy and emotion between the band and the fans turns each concert into an experience that actualize the ideas of community, responsibility, and celebration heard in the band's lyrics. Dubbed "The Herd," Donna's inspired fanbase trails the band as they make their way from state to state. The Herd spans several generations, styles and aesthetics, with one common denominator- a love for the roots-rock splendor of Donna the Buffalo.
Following up their 1999 release that won the AIM award for Best Rock Album (Rockin' in the Weary Land/Sugar Hill Records), Donna the Buffalo released their fourth record (Positive Friction/Sugar Hill Records). It received radio airplay nationwide climbing to #14 on Americana Radio and sold over 15,000 copies, rising to #7 on Billboard's Weekly Chart for Internet Sales. Donna the Buffalo is now proud to release "Live From the American Ballroom" on their own label, Wildlife Music. The double LIVE CD features the hottest tracks from their spring 2001 East Coast Tour in which the band sold out theaters from Buffalo to Tampa.
