Priapism is in essence, an act of musical "dumpster diving" that combines several "unfit" programmatic concepts and appropriates them for absolute musical purposes. The rythmic cells are derived by code from lyrics in G.G. Allin's song "Hard Candy" from the album Hated in America. The same "encoding" applied to the work's title is responsible for the two six-note pitch classes found in the music. Priapism was written for Endy Emby (Brian McWhorter, trumpet; Aaron Trant, percussion) and was premiered in 1999. Priapism is fairly virtuousic in nature and is the perfect addition to any college or professional recital situation.
Instrumentation:
Solo Trumpet in C

Percussion:
kick drum (laid on its side)
snare drum
bongos
small crash cymbal
"sizzle" china cymbal
vibraphone
