West African Sabar drumming and the rhythmic twists of the popular rock band Tool are among the influences for this composition written for the Cornell University Percussion Ensemble. The piece is scored for ten percussionists with two concepts in mind: groove and volume. The name comes from the beautiful silver headed, black and yellow bodied garden spider. Through eight separate sections, Orb Weaver spins a web of intricate rhythms sure to entangle the listener.
