5 Stars GrassRoots 7/21/07 Donna the Buffalo Live
by Tom Clausen from Ithaca, N.Y. on Dec 30, 2007
From the heart of the summer, heart of the musical lover's paradise and heart of what Donna the Buffalo does best; (put on tremendously good time live shows!) here is an extra special two disc live pleasure. From the opening , with Jeb and Tara playing a rare fiddle duet, all the way through, this show is filled with spontaneous feel-good energy, with terrific sound quality, consistent throughout.. Whether you have long loved DTB or you are just discovering them and curious to hear a live show , this is an especially worthy, unusual show. It contains strong versions of some regularly played songs like Family Picture, Funkyside, Conscious Evolution and Blue Sky but the inclusion of several relative rarities like Biggie K is a Superstar,Come to Life, Current Theme and Revelation Two-Step provides some examples of the vast treasure chest of songs DTB draws from. The quality of the recording is superb and the addition of back up horns and vocalists on many of the songs give this show a unique and indelible flow that satisfies entirely through repeat listenings. Adding a family theme, this very festive show also includes a marriage proposal ( and acceptance ) on stage followed by the gorgeous 'This Goes' .If you have not yet experienced being at GrassRoots and enjoying the extraordinary sensation of being out on the infield under the big night sky, gathered with the combustion of a good time grassroots crowd waiting for host band Donna the Buffalo to launch into one of their fabled shows, then do yourself a favor and give this a try. This is a recording where the GrassRoots magic shines through and through. If you have been there, then you know why you will want to have this show to savor, again and again, the peak of what is best about the summer side of life! Highly recommended! (Live music rocks!)
