In a genre that all too often falls prey to formula, the reggae collective known as 10 Ft. Ganja Plant have breathed new life into the mix. Certainly, Midnight Landing has its share of dub-drenched drum and bass, and upstrokes on the offbeat. But while the band is clearly indebted to its predecessors, 10 Ft. Ganja Plant breaks the mold by updating these aesthetics with a forward-looking energy. Melodica lines summon the spirit of Augustus Pablo, and the whole bag is brimming with the reverb-heavy dub production values handed down form Lee "Scratch" Perry and King Tubby.
